Warren Byrom & Fabled Canelands (Lexington, Ky.)
Roots Rock/Psych Folk
There is a dusty expanse that permeates Warren Byrom and the Fabled Canelands, a whispered melancholy that ripples outward from its point of origin all the way to the horizon and impacts everyone it touches along the way. The band’s 2011 eponymous debut is a musical sigh that insinuates itself into listeners’ ears and immediately makes its way to their hearts, where it settles with a satisfied shudder. At its most excitable, Byrom’s songs will inspire some bent leg dancing but they are mostly contemplative ruminations on the vagaries and nature of life and love, and those are the best songs of all.
YDIIYD: Jimbo Mathus and Eugene Edwards trade dobro licks and sad life stories. (BB)
