Mr. Elevator and The Brain Hotel

Mr. Elevator & the Brain Hotel (Los Angeles)
Psych Rock

It would be easy to pin the retro dayglo tail on Mr. Elevator & the Brain Hotel’s paisley donkey given its swirling organ-driven sound and trippy swing and sway. So let’s go ahead and call an acid-fried spade an acid-fried spade. With lava lamps set to stun, Mr. Elevator & the Brain Hotel don’t just reference a specific time in musical history, they weave strains of specific songs (“Telstar,” “Incense and Peppermints,” “The Crystal Ship”) into the tie-dyed fabric of its original but fabulously familiar music. The Brain Hotel’s debut full-length, Nico & Her Psychedelic Subconscious, is a tab on the tongue and a literal time machine trip back to the not so-late ‘60s, man.
