Drowners (New York, N.Y.)
Brit Pop/Indie Rock

The band’s name may conjure memories of the glorious, early Suede single “The Drowners.” And while that connection isn’t totally off-base, the band’s brand of Anglophile Indie aligns itself closer to more recent Pop monsters such as The Vaccines or Spector. The Anglophile reference is no accident, as lead singer/guitarist Matthew Hitt is a Welsh transplant. Drowners’ self-titled debut LP dropped in January on Frenchkiss Records, with the band nabbing opening slots for Arctic Monkeys and the aforementioned Vaccines. They launch a 20-date headlining North American tour this fall.
