Bailiff (Chicago)
Dark Pop/Indie Rock

It’s difficult to confine the trio of Bailiff to a certain genre, but they’ve been genre-tagged with West African Blues, Celtic Folk and Indian Raga. When singer Josh Siegel put an ad on Craigslist to find his future bandmates he wrote ,“Do you consider Radiohead to be soul music? Do you hear Muddy Waters in between the notes on the White Album?” Suffice to say the guys aren’t boring. Their 2011 full-length, Red Balloon, features heavy guitars yet melody drenched instrumentations on the song “In the Reverie,” contrasted with the track “Eventually,” which forges a dancehall beat. This spring the group released the Remise EP, filled with such propulsive sounds that you’d think there was an entire collective in the studio, not just three dudes.
